CHURCH HILL 7 - 0 WYCHBOLD RBL
October 25, 2009
Church returned to the hall for their first game home in almost two months and in front of an expectant audience playing on a surface fit for a Wembley Cup Final (or NFL football game as the case maybe this week!). The game got underway against a youthful and energetic Wychbold side. Several changes had to be made with the absent Fabe and Ross replaced by the returning Champ, Grogan and Joe Troth. Alsol absent this week was Russ Ager and this resulted in captain marvel, Sav, being pushed into midfield. No allocated ref this week meant that secretary Tuzza was put into action to find a replacement and he came up with Will Cemis, a youngster from Stratford upon Avon with real promise and the potential to develop into a fine referee in future years.
The game was played in rather windy conditions and although the surface was clearly as good as it has or ever probably will be, both sides struggled early to put quality passes together. As the game settled it was Church who made the first significant mark on the game as a long range effort was parried by the keeper and the rebound expertly finished by The Don, 1-0 Church!
A rather stagnated and uneventful period of play developed over the next 20 or so minutes until Sav made his mark in the penalty area finishing off a loose ball to double Church’s lead. A moment of madness from an opposition player saw Church finish the half against ten men and a rash challenge on the edge of the box but just inside saw Joe Adams, back on penalty duty, increase the lead to three on the stroke of half time.
The second half was all one way traffic; further clinical finishes from Grogan (3) and a well placed free kick from the impressive Joe Troth saw Church run out comfortable winners by seven goals to nil. Brett Skinner flush with goals and money at the
moment is playing out of his skin and deserves a mention as does the ever-dependable Matty Harris and Anthony Savery. MoM is again difficult, with no single individual standing out. Pabs made another cameo appearance and was again as ineffective as last week to be fair, and alongside a disgruntled Wrighty never really made much of an impact from the subs’ bench. Brendan is always a threat but not yet firing on all cylinders and Byford and Adams are always pure class but again did not really stand out. For me Marc Grogan’s clinical finishes coupled with the hat trick ball and a good all-round performance sees him as this week’s man of the match. As Church look forward to a free week next week and the draw for the 3rd round of the Terry Cup we move into a crucial period of matches with a Tuzza match rating of 7.5 out of 10. As a gambling man I would confidently suggest that the double headers with Westbury and Austin will go along way to deciding the outcome of this year’s league title. A mention for Black Horse though who have taken four points from their Austin fixtures and still have Westbury to play. They will themselves still think they have a shout of winning the league but it is more likely that they will have a say in where the new champions end up rather than retaining the title themselves.
Good luck to Redditch this week in their replay, it would be great if a big crowd got down to the home fixture this Tuesday to cheer them on to a 1st round tie away to Jeff Stelling’s Hartlepool! Lets hope everyone in Redditch is feeling good come Tuesday night!
